| MAN: What the... Hey! That's my phone! (on Neb, phone rings) TANK: Operator. NEO (V.O.): Mr. Wizard, get me the hell out of here! |
The Mr. Wizard reference could be a nod to the 1960's cartoon Tooter Turtle. Each episode, Tooter would get into trouble and call out "Help Mr.Wizard," and Mr. Wizard would magically bring him home. It could also be another Wizard of Oz reference. |

| TANK: I got a patch on an old exit. Wabash and Lake. A hotel. Room 303. NEO: Uh, help! Need a little help! TANK: The door. (He goes through the door) TANK: (V.O.) Shit! On your left. TANK: (V.O.) No! Other left! TANK: (V.O.) The window! TANK: (V.O.) Down! Down! TANK: That's it! You're almost there! That fire escape at the end of the alley! |
Neo starts in room 101 (me, myself and I) and ends up in the room of the Trinity, room 303, indicating, perhaps, that he has moved from a selfish world-view to a collective mindset. The 3's could also represent the 3 days Yeshua spent in the tomb, as there is not room in the movie for Neo to remain dead for 3 days. (When Neo runs through the marketplace, one of the agents fires at him and misses, exploding a pile of watermelons nearby. This may be an homage to an identical scene in Ghost in the Shell.) (As Neo runs through the apartment, we see an image on the TV of a menacing man in a black suit coat. The image is that of one of the Number 2's from the 1967 TV show `The Prisoner.') |

(sentinels coming...) TRINITY: No. MORPHEUS: Here they come. MORPHEUS (to Trinity): He's going to make it. TANK: They've burned through the outer hull. TRINITY: Hurry, Neo. |

| (Room 303) Agent Smith shoots Neo as he walks in the door. MORPHEUS: No, it can't be. It can't be. AGENT SMITH: Check him. TRINITY: Neo... AGENT BROWN: He's gone. AGENT SMITH: Good-bye, Mr. Anderson. TRINITY: Neo, please, listen to me. The Oracle, she told me that I'd fall in love and that that man, the man I loved would be the One. You see? You can't be dead, Neo, you can't be because I love you. You hear me? I love you! (He does. His eyes snap open.) TRINITY: Now get up! |
Trinity's kiss could represent the breath of God giving new life to Neo. "Neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor [anything else] shall separate us from the love of God in Christ" (Romans 8:38,39) "Though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for You are with me" (Psalm 23:3). Trinity demonstrates her faith in Neo. As 'the one,' he is able to transcend the 'body/mind' link. She plays a type of three different Mary's:
Trinity can also represent the Everyman, any person, especially during the final fight scene:

| NEO: No! (cool bullet scene, then taking over Agent Smith...) TANK: How...?! MORPHEUS: He is the One. He is the One! (Sentinels are everywhere destroying the ship.) TRINITY: Neo! (Neo runs for the phone) TRINITY: Now! Morpheus turns the key. TRINITY: Neo? His eyes open. She kisses him, he kisses her and we wait for the next movie! |
This sequence is a literary portrayal of the verse "Submit therefore to God, resist the devil [Neo saying 'No' and fighting Agent Smith] and he will flee from you [the remaining Agents flee]." (James 4:8) Neo "takes up the shield of faith, with which [he] will be able to extinguish all the flaming missiles [bullets] of the evil one." (Ephesians 6:16) "No weapon formed against you shall prosper." (Isaiah 54:17) When Neo looks down at the agents and sees the Matrix code, he is being given a new understanding. Now that he is truly Neo, he can see the false nature of the matrix. Perhaps we can imagine what we would see if we could look at people and see them for who they really are see into their hearts as Christ does. Would our response to them be different? Paul Fontana makes an interesting connection here with Paul's description of what our resurrected body will be like. In 1 Cor. 15:42-43, Paul compares the fleshly body to the resurrected body, "What is sown is perishable, what is raised is imperishable. It is sown in dishonor, raised in glory. It is sown in weakness, raised in power." Once resurrected, Neo is able to do things that were unimaginable in his former life, even considering the unimaginable things he had already accomplished. He is able to slow time to a stand still, to stop bullets, effortlessly fight off an attack, dive inside Agent Smith's "body" and ascend into the sky at will. The apostles did not expect Yeshua to die, and once dead did not expect Him to be resurrected, even though they had seen Lazarus resurrected. Similarly, the Neb crew did not expect Neo to die and, in fact, worked hard to keep him alive. But as we see in the end, it was absolutely necessary for Neo to die in order to fulfill his mission, just as Yeshua had to die to fulfill His. |
