| NEO'S ROOM: Trinity enters from the hall, carrying a tray of food. She sees him passed out on the bed, sets the tray down and pulls the blanket over him. CYPHER: I don't remember you ever bringing me dinner. There's something about him, isn't there? TRINITY: Don't tell me you're a believer now? CYPHER: I just keep wondering if Morpheus is so sure, why doesn't he take him to see the Oracle? TRINITY: Morpheus will take him when he's ready. |
Trinity here displays the Christian example of taking care of each other and serving one another. Her conversation with Cypher shows that they are unwilling to be open with each other and that they are both as of yet unsure of Neo's status. Cypher, however seems much less willing to give him a chance. |

| (Training program) MORPHEUS: The Matrix is a system, Neo, and that system is our enemy. But when you are inside you look around, what do you see; businessmen, lawyers, teachers, carpenters. The very minds of the people we are trying to save. But until we do, these people are still a part of the system and that makes them our enemy. You have to understand that most of these people are not ready to be unplugged and many of them are so inured, so hopelessly dependent on the system that they will fight to protect it. |
Morpheus explains more about the Matrix. It is also true that, as humans in this world, we are all capable of being agents of Satan...we are are all capable of sin or selfishness or even simply not trusing God fully and leading someone astray in our desire to 'do the right thing.' We must always compare the advice we get from people to Scriptures and our own prayer life to make sure we are doing God's will. "If someone among you thinks he is wise (by this worlds standards), let him become "foolish" so that he may become really wise. For the wisdom of this world is nonsense, as far as God is concerned." 1 Cor. 2:18-19 |

| MORPHEUS: Were you listening to me, Neo? Or were you looking at the woman in the red dress? NEO: I was... MORPHEUS: Look again. MORPHEUS: Freeze it. NEO: This--This isn't the Matrix? MORPHEUS: No, it's another training program designed to teach you one thing; if you are not one of us, you're one of them. NEO: What are they? |
"Are you listening to God? Or are you focused on temptation?" Just as Neo is tempted to look away for a moment and linger on the beauty of the Matrix, we find it difficult not to focus on the things of this world. Since Neo is busy admiring the Matrix, he might be led right into a trap. We are often led into traps the same way. "...Whoever chooses to be the world's friend makes himself God's enemy." James 4:4 But wouldn't it be great if we could practice in a simulation before venturing into the world?! |

| MORPHEUS: Sentient programs. They can move in and out of any software still hardwired to their system. That means that anyone that we haven't unplugged is potentially an Agent. Inside the Matrix, they are everyone and they are no one. We've survived by hiding from them, running from them, but they are the gatekeepers, they're guarding all the doors, holding all the keys which means that sooner or later someone is going to have to fight them. |
Those who do not believe God are friends of the world system by default. The people in the Matrix were not aware of the true nature of the Agents - but the Agents enslaved and dominated them nonetheless. Those who do not believe in God often do not believe in Satan either - but such unbelief does not make God or Satan less powerful! There is no neutral ground. |

| NEO: Someone? MORPHEUS: I won't lie to you, Neo. Every single man or woman who has stood their ground, everyone who has fought an Agent, has died. But where they failed, you will succeed. NEO: Why? MORPHEUS: I've seen an Agent punch through a concrete wall. Men have emptied entire clips at them and hit nothing but air. Yet their strength and their speed are still based in a world that is built on rules. Because of that, they will never be as strong or as fast as you can be. NEO: What are you trying to tell me? That I can dodge bullets? MORPHEUS: No, Neo. I'm trying to tell you that when you're ready, you won't have to. |
However, Neo is not so fortunate. He is the one who will have to defeat the Matrix. "For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places." Eph. 6:12 Morpheus is trying to show Neo that there is a power greater than that of muscle and weaponry. When Neo finally understands the Truth he will be more powerful than any agent. |

| Morpheus' cell phone rings and he flips it open. TANK (V.O.): We got trouble. Morpheus and Neo are taken back to the ship. MORPHEUS: Did Zion send the warning? DOZER: No. Another ship. Squiddy's sweeping in quick. |

| NEO: Squiddy? TRINITY: A Sentinel. It's a killing machine designed for one thing. DOZER: Search and destroy. MORPHEUS: Set her down in there. MORPHEUS: How we doing, Tank? TANK: Power off-line. E.M.P. armed and ready. NEO: E.M.P? TRINITY: An electromagnetic pulse. It disables any electrical system in the blast radius. It's the only weapon we have against the machines. Dozer looks up. NEO: Where are we? TRINITY: Their old service and waste systems. NEO: Sewers? TRINITY: They used to be cities that spanned hundreds of miles. Now these sewers are all that's left of them. MORPHEUS: Quiet. The squiddie leaves...everyone breathes a little easier. |
"For we are not struggling against human beings, but against the rulers, authorities, and cosmic powers governing darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realm." Eph 6:12 Perhaps we can look at the squiddies as anti-types of demons. They are sent to do Satan's work, however, in this particular instance they are sent to kill them and that is not quite how demons work. They are not given the authority to take life in that way. Still, I think it works in the allegory. |
