Notes

MORPHEUS: How is he?

TANK: Ten hours straight. He's...a machine.

NEO: I know kung fu.

MORPHEUS: Show me.

MORPHEUS: This is a sparring program, similar to the programmed reality of the Matrix. It has the same basic rules. Rules like gravity. What you must learn is that these rules are no different than the rules of a computer system. Some of them can be bent. Others can be broken. Understand?

Neo nods.

MORPHEUS: Then hit me, if you can.

They fight...very cool.

Knowing is never enough...we must be able to put into practice what we have learned.

James 2:17, "Even so faith, if it has no works, is dead."

Galatians 5:6, "For in Yeshua neither circumcision nor uncircumcision means anything, but faith working through love."

Throughout these scenes, Neo is learning to put into practice what he has learned.

(The music played in the dogo consists of three pieces that, on the score, are termed the "Bow Whisk Orchestra," also the title of the first movement.

The second movement is "Leave You Far Behind" by Lunatic Asylum

The third is "Switch or Break Show."

Both "Bow Whisk Orchestra" & "Switch Or Break Show" are deliberate anagrams of "Wachowski Brothers.")

MORPHEUS: Good. Adaptation. Improvisation. But your weakness is not your technique.

The fight continues. Mouse bursts into the mess hall, interrupting dinner.

MOUSE: Morpheus is fighting Neo!

(Morpheus bests Neo.)

MORPHEUS: How did I beat you?

NEO (panting): You--you're too fast.

MORPHEUS: Do you think that my being faster, stronger has anything to do with my muscles in this place?

Do you believe that's air you are breathing now?

(Neo stops panting.)

MORPHEUS: Hmmm. Again.

The truth is that the Matrix is simply a simulation. Neo's ability in that simulation is limited merely by his belief, not by his simulated abilities.

Again...Neo needs to view the world in a new paradigm...he has to learn faith in the 'new rules.'

From The Matrix - A CyberPunk Parable?

"A Christian must learn to "walk by faith, not by sight." (2 Corinthians 5:7). Just as this is Neo's challenge throughout the film, this is also a central scriptural theme for the life of a Christian."

((A bit from Alice in Wonderland:

"I AM real!" said Alice who began to cry.[...]

"I hope you don't suppose those are REAL tears?" Tweedledum interrupted in a tone of great contempt.))

MOUSE: Jeeezus Keeerist, He's fast! Look at his neural-kinetics! They're way above normal!

MORPHEUS: What are you waiting for? You're faster than this. Don't think you are. Know you are.

MORPHEUS: Come on! Stop trying to hit me and hit me!

The fighting continues until Neo punches, stopping just in front of Morpheus' face.

"Indeed, just as the body without a spirit is dead, so too faith withhout actions is dead." (James 2:26). "Knowing that our old self was crucified with Yeshua count yourselves as dead to sin, but alive to God in Yeshua" (Romans 6:6)

MOUSE: I don't believe it!

NEO: I know what you're trying to do--

MORPHEUS: I'm trying to free your mind, Neo, but all I can do is show you the door. You're the one that has to step through. Tank, load the jump program.

(Jump scene)

MORPHEUS: You have to let it all go, Neo. Fear. Doubt. Disbelief. Free your mind.

Morpheus jumps.

NEO: Whoa. Okie dokie.

MOUSE: What if he makes it?

TANK: No one's ever made their first jump.

MOUSE: I know but what if he does?

APOC: He won't.

TRINITY (whispers): Come on.

NEO: Free my mind. Right. No problem.

(Neo attempts the jump and falls to the street.)

MOUSE: What does it that mean?

SWITCH: It doesn't mean anything.

CYPHER: Everyone falls the first time, right, Trin?

NEO: I thought it wasn't real.

MORPHEUS: Your mind makes it real.

NEO: If you are killed in the Matrix, you die here?

MORPHEUS: The body cannot live without the mind.

What Neo does right before he falls? He looks down.

As long as we keep our eyes on our Saviour, we keep moving towards Him. But as soon as we start looking at the world around us, getting distracted by it or fearing it, we are pulled into it and away from Him.

Again we see Cyphers doubt, his smile when Neo falls. Notice the difference in Trinity's encouragement and Tank's comment, "No one makes their first jump." As Christian's, we should encourage and uplift each other, hoping for the best for each other.
