Christmas Spirit

To help us all get into the Christmas Spirit, I thought I'd post a couple of charity causes.

The first is, of course, a knitting thing! Heifer International is an amazing organization that provides incomes to families by providing animals. One of the animal options is a knitting basket, which includes two llamas and two sheep (one male and one female of each) to be used in several ways. The families can harvest the wool and spin their own yarn, knitting it into warm clothing and blankets, sell the wool or their knitted items, and eventually sell or give away the offspring to others in their community to allow them to do the same. It's an amazing gift with many amazing stories. Thanks to Wendy for getting it started!

Well the knitting/blogging community is raising money for 10 baskets this year. That's a total of $5000. Please consider helping families in need!
(If you'd prefer to write a check, let me know and it will be arranged!)

The second charity I want to mention is one highlighted by Strengthen the Good. Here's what they've got to say:
The C.S. Lewis Bilingual Gymnaziumin in Bratislava, Slovakia.

... but the gist is this: Slovakian teenagers, at a small and poor school set amongs the towers of a Soviet-era apartment block, trying to learn English (which they call "the language of freedom and opportunity,") but with no books.

So I thought we could help build a library, and have something to feel good about along the way.

Got an extra copy of The Fountainhead or Old Yeller or the works of T. S. Eliot lying around? Here's your chance to use them to do some good.
