It's finished! I haven't blocked it, yet, (do I
need too?? How do I do this??) but otherwise it is finished and will accompany
me on the Thanksgiving trek to my brothers' house.
There are several mistakes in it, but this yarn
is so bulky that it's very forgiving.

I didn't intend for there to be a pattern, but I purled when I should have knitted a row, then did it again later. So I tried to match the 'pattern' on the other end. It's close enough for my first real knitting job. I might eventually go back and double the width of the blanket, but it's wide enough for using in the car or on the couch and I've got Christmas knitting and shopping to do!
For my records, this blanket was done on a simple knit 1 row, purl 1 row, repeat pattern. It's pretty long and started getting heavy and hot, so I knitted it in two separate panels then used a 3 needle method of joining the two pieces and casting off at the same time. I don't have any idea how I should have done it and I'm not really thrilled with the results, but I'm too proud of myself to be annoyed with it at this point. It's just a start!
The dogs were feeling very left out of things. They are used to coming over and getting scratched no matter what I'm doing, but knitting takes both hands and they just don't like it at all. While trying to figure out the camera I've borrowed for the weekend, I snapped these shots of their attempts to wiggle in and get a little love.

Maxwell is the one on the left; Cooper is on the right. (They're both 5!) Cooper has a thing about the PowerBook. Any time I bring it out, he wants to put his nose on it, usually on the keys, because that's where my hands are.
Well...enough for now. We're leaving in the morning to go to Alabama, so I may not post much until Saturday. Happy Thanksgiving!
