I'm home nursing a migraine but thought I'd take
a minute to post. I finished another Christmas present last night, so that's 4
so far. I'll post them and the notes about them after Christmas because I'm not
sure who is reading this! But one of the things I liked so much that I'm
knitting another one for me!
I've also just started Knitty.com's Abilhinn
for someone I KNOW isn't reading this. I started it last night, got confused on
the bobbles and decided not to add them, then got messed up on about the 3rd row
and finally frogged it (rip-it, rip-it!) before going to bed. But I've started
it again this morning and I'm planning to practice the bobbles on some scrap
yarn. I really think Chad's cousin will like it in the fluffy blue yarn I'm
using! I thought she could throw this on and not worry about having to keep a
scarf on while she corals her two adorable little boys. I hope I can finish it
by Christmas. It's the most challenging thing I've done, yet and I don't have a
lot of time! I'm also altering the pattern slightly because I don't have the
circular needles and I promised not to buy anything else until after
Christmas.
I'm looking forward to trying some of the other Knitty patterns, too!
On the NON Knitting side of life, our car is dead. Yes, the Outback bit the dust. The engine seized. We thought it was just a timing belt problem, but that, apparently, is fine. The mechanic is tearing down to the engine itself to see what all it needs, but he really is expecting that we need a new one, at a cost of around $5000. We're considering trading it on a Civic, if that's the case. We want the hybrid for several reasons, but I'm worried about getting a bike rack to fit it. We'll make sure we can before we pursue it.
We have 120k miles on the Outback, and we really do abuse it, but still! The 1992 Ford Escort, which is just as abused, has been driven all over the country and would be running today if we put a battery in it. I'm not sure what to think. I loved my Outback...should I chance it again? If we don't go with the Civic, we might.
