Tue - December 2, 2003 Blogfodder is Gone!
I feel so guilty! If only I had used the ideas more often...indeed, if I
had READ the ideas more often!
I joined Blogfodder quite a while ago in an effort to find good topics for
blogging. The ideas were creative and interesting and made me
think.
But I got into a habit of dragging the email to a special folder for blogging ideas and then never bothering to go back and read them. I'm sure you've noticed that I don't post as often as of late and reading the ideas would probably have helped me post more often. But, alas, they have folded. The final idea, which I received nearly a month ago, was on how you know when it's time to go. I guess I don't know when it's time to go OR when it's time for someone else to go. Gee...I hope I don't treat my friendships the way I've treated Blogfodder! Goodbye, Blogfodder...I'll miss you as I go through the last several months worth if ideas and catch back up on them. My readers will miss you when I'm finished with the list. Tue - November 25, 2003 Back to Life
Well, Sunday was the final performance of 'A Christmas Carol' as adapted by
Jeff Weiss. All went well, the cast party at our home was fun and we have our
evenings back.
We have been swearing that this is our first and last performance. The
amount of time that rehearsals take and the stress involved in being busy nearly
every single night of the week, especially when we have so little time to
prepare for the Wed. Coffee House and the Thursday Bible Study, are just
exhausting.
However...two of my favorite plays are coming up. Jeff will be directing "'Night Mother" and the other theater instructor at the college will be directing "Fiddler on the Roof" in the Spring. As much as I'd love to be in Jeff's, I wont' kid myself that I have the talent, time or memory for a 2 actress play. I CAN convince myself that my singing is just enough on this side of decent to try out for "Fiddler." It is one of my favorite plays and has been since I was 6. Am I nuts? Probably. But, hey, if you don't live a full life, is your life 1/2 full or 1/2 empty? Tue - November 18, 2003 Long Week
The play (A Christmas Carol) starts Wed. and I'm getting pretty
nervous.
Practice is going ok...there is nightly improvement, although not nearly
enough English accent is being thrown around. And with all the other stuff
we're doing, I'm really worn out. I can't think well anymore and my short term
memory problem is nearly Memento-esc in it's severity.
But it has been fun, and getting to know some of the students has been fun, too. I regret that, at the moment, I don't think we'll do this again, since it is taking so much energy that I don't think I had to start with. And, this bloody diet thing is at the bloody wrong time! We're doing the 'South Beach Diet' and I miss my Unleaded Mountain Dew (UMD) and Bagel in the morning. I miss a lot of things, but mainly I miss my UMD. It's like a smoker quitting at tax time when he's deeply indebted to the feds. It's good for my heart and my pancreas, but it's bloody 'el on the rest of me! OK...I'm exaggerating. But I do miss it dearly. Mon - November 10, 2003 Claxton Century
Well, we have returned from the 'Crusin' in the Country
Century' bicycling event in Claxton, Ga. A good time was had by
all.
I heard of only one broken wrist, and in a group of 800-1000 cyclists,
that's pretty darned good! I'm sure there are plenty of saddle sores and aching
muscles, but I really heard no complaints.
We also skipped out on some of the weekend to see 'The Matrix: Revolutions.' It was fabulous! I was annoyed at some of the other viewers who didn't seem to understand some of what was going on and the significance of it all...there was a bit of inappropriate giggling and such. But this is certainly a deep and thought provoking movie, so you can't expect it to be for everyone. I plan to see it at least once more in the theater and probably won't write much about it for a while, as our lives are so busy right now that I don't have time, and this is the kind of movie that requires much thought and discussion before committing ideas to paper! Fri - November 7, 2003 The Answer is...I Don't Know...Don't Tell Me!!!
I'm so bummed!
I like being known as the 'huge Matrix fan' and yet I have not been able to
see Revolutions, yet!!! Please don't ask...please tell me NOTHING! I'm not
even poking around on the 'net because I want NO details...I want to see it with
as few expectations as I can muster.
Hopefully, though, after we get done with the bike ride on Saturday we'll be able to find a theater near the town we're camping in and we'll get to see it. I haven't even gotten anything written up, yet, about Reloaded!! Wed - November 5, 2003 Petz
What a week it's been. What a couple of weeks, actually.
First, I found out that the 'under the porch' cat, Sydney, got hit by a car
and killed. The I discover that a neighbors dog bite a child and started
causing trouble with passerbys and the decision was made to put it to sleep.
Then a neighbors cat was found dead under the porch. Then a kitten got into our
dog run and nearly got killed by one of my pooches.
And THEN...Saturday morning, Canaan, our 11 year old Chow/Rotti mix had trouble walking and fell on the stairs, surfing down the largest portion. She possibly has a brain tumor, might have ruptured a disk in her spine, and has Coccidia (an intestinal parasite). We can't afford surgery, so she is on medication and we hope she will recover on her own. Right now, she can't stand on her own, so we carry her out several times a day (she hates that) and she spends most of her day in the house. We thought our lives were busy before! This really makes getting to work on time harder, not to mention that I'm reluctant to be gone very long, so what am I going to do about the Claxton 'Cruisin' in the Country' bike ride this weekend? It's a tradition! I'm a cactus people!! AND---if THAT were not enuf! The Matrix Revolution opens TODAY at 9:00a.m. (yes, A.M.) here on the east coast, and I won't get to be there...in FACT...I may not get to see it until at LEAST Saturday night, more likely NEXT WEEK sometime. Do you realize how HARD this is for me?!?! {sigh} I really believe the Adversary is at work here. Fri - October 24, 2003 Bartender!!
I'm enjoying playing bartender at the Coffee
House. I probably should be letting more of the students get a chance,
but it's just been too fun to give up! Even if I AM just making Italian
Sodas. (We don't use the milk, just the club soda.)
My cold is better, although I sometimes still sound like a 2-pack-a-day
smoker. But I can breathe a little, now, so that's a good thing. I've got a
few comments that I think I'm going to move to amazing,
so if you want more today, you'll have to go there.
Wed - October 22, 2003 Anudder Day
...anudder box of Puffs Dissues wid lotion. And my dnose hurts.
I'm glad to see this
is finally getting passed, though.
And, hey, go Apple! I know that their hardware is the biggest draw to the Apple platform, that and their OS (operating system), but it's nice to see some of their software being embraced by people forced to attempt work on a machine that crashes more often than your kid's frat brothers. (Yeah...that doesn't work very well, does it? Gotta think of something better than that.) So, if you, too, are stuck with a Windoze machine, at least you can listen to music on superior software! iTunes is free, too. And now iTunes Music Store offers an allowance option...you create an allowance account, deposit money into it, then you can spend that money on tunes. Parents can set them up for kids, husbands can set them up for wives (hint, hint) or you can set one up for a friend, sort of like a gift certificate. Or just send them the gift certificate. I love it! So, that's the Kathy Davies' News Report. Enjoy your day! Wed - October 15, 2003 Time Flies!
Wow...it's already been over a week since I last posted!
I'm on my own in the office this week, so I'm trying to keep myself busy
(most of the schools are empty for fall break) without doing TOO much personal
stuff. But I had to post this link that my Grandmother-in-law sent. The
pictures chronicle the birth and first month of a hummingbird
in the wild.
We recently watched our tiny zebra finches hatch 2 tiny babies and were amazed at the quick growth. They aren't finished getting their color, but they were as big as mom and dad in less than a month, too. Mon - September 29, 2003 Bummer of a Blog Day
I've been catching up on my blog reading today.
One of the blogs I've kept up with for quite a while seems to be devolving
into inanity. (I thought I made that word up...imagine my excitement when it
turns out to be a real word!) Another of my favorite blogs, although I knew the
writer listened to music that I was not familiar with, but it turns out this
same writer who keeps me laughing and charmed, despises some of my favorite
musical groups.
Bummer of a blog day, Hal. Toasty Warm
I've discovered a new use for the PowerBook.
It warms my lap nicely when I'm cold. Perhaps this, along with chicken
soup, can knock out this silly Cold that I'm fighting.
Sun - September 14, 2003 To Tide You Over
Yes...I promised a meme. I'm still working on it. But I thought I'd
mention that I posted to skoob, so take
a peek over there.

It has all of Chad's races listed on it. If you click on an item, a little
window appears with notes about the event. Like if he won or not. And how much
carnage there was at the race. Things like that. The same goes for the other
calendars.
