The adult bald eagle in these photos is
tending a nest on Hoes Island, Damariscotta
Lake, Maine. There are two eaglets, just a
few weeks old (no photos yet). The eagles
used the same nest last year, and had two
eaglets with all feathers a dark chocolate
brown. I named them Hagar and Hagrid.
One of these two juveniles survived to the
second year, and now has a few white
feathers and a mottled appearance. He (or
she) has been cruising around our bay,
south of the nesting island. The adult eagle
is always magnificent, whether perched,
soaring or diving.
All photos shot with Canon EOS 5D digital
SLR, 500 mm IS lens with 1.4x
teleconverter, Gitzo 1325 tripod with
Wimberley head, from boat.
