Bam

With my cousin, Reza, we visited Kerman and Bam in Iran, in May 2002, before the tragic earthquake. Here are some pictures from our trip.

Tehran airport. A computer that tells fortune, etc. Better if you read Farsi!
The famous Baghe Shazde gardens in Mahan, outside Kerman.
Another view.
Time for chelo kabab in the restaurant on site!

Met these students from Isfahan Univ., travelling around Iran.
Religious text on mud walls.
Two shopkeepers near the Shazde gardens
Waiting at petrol station for a bus to Bam, we met this man from Bam...
... with one of his 10 children! (The father is looking to marry a second wife!)
Tea is available everywhere of course!
More tea at the roadside.
Bam citadel is a huge ancient ruin. Here are two local kids.
The ruins are being repaired, but I'm not sure that's a good thing.
Time for a break at the teahouse...
... And a hubble bubble.
A view from the top of the citadel.
Another view.
Baluchi couple from Zahedan on siteseeing tour
We ran across our friends from Isfahan in Bam.
More Baluchis from Zahedan.
The lunch at the citadel restaurant was first class. (Zereshk polo.)
We stayed at the Azadi hotel in Bam. Facilities are first class, but not service
Pictures of martyrs are everywhere in Iran.

Kids playing in Bam.
Our taxi driver.
More kids in Bam
Bam is famous for dates.
