Evil Intent: A new book!

On Thursday 24 February, Heffers Bookshop in Cambridge hosted a book launch for 'Evil Intent', my brand new book. Though we were threated with very bad weather, it failed to materialise, and only a few people seem to have been scared away by the forecast. It was a lovely gathering, mingling old friends and faithful readers. Towards the end of the evening, after signing a satisfying number of books, I was asked to say a few words. I talked about what had inspired me to write 'Evil Intent', and read a short excerpt from the book. Two of the three 'wise and wonderful women' to whom the book is dedicated, the Revd. Jacquie Birdseye and Christina Rees, were present, and each of them said a few words as well.

A more informal, personal party will be held in London next week. Photos of the Heffers launch are viewable on line:

Back from the US

I returned home yesterday from a long trip to the US - and Canada, where I attended the Toronto Bouchercon.

The culmination of the trip was Homecoming weekend at my alma mater, Illinois State University, where I was honoured as the year's Distinguished Alum of Milner Library. This included a luncheon, a Murder Mystery Dinner (at which I found myself on stage, competing in a singing competition against Hercule Poirot, emceed by Nancy Drew!), and a nail-biting football game. I also gave a public reading of my short story 'Through a Glass, Darkly' (published in Murder Most Catholic, edited by Ralph McInerny, Cumberland House, 2002, ISBN 1-58182-260-X), and finished with a sneak preview of the opening pages of 'Evil Intent', which will be published in February 2005 by Allison & Busby.
