New NASA Launch Vehicles


But a year-long study initiated prior to the change in NASA Administrators and completed this spring gave an extensive review to both uses of a launch vehicle derived from the Space Shuttle's Solid Rocket Booster (SRB) as well as a larger booster design using twin SRB motors flanking a derivative of the shuttle's External Tank (ET), mated with a large liquid upper stage.

So what's wrong with the Shuttle?


Four in each tank, known as engine cutoff - ECO - sensors, are part of a backup system intended to make sure the ship's engines don't shut down too early, resulting in an abort, or run too long, draining the tank dry with potentially catastrophic results.

Magic Comet Ride


- The AutoNavigation system on Deep Impact’s impactor spacecraft has completed its first planned maneuver to steer the craft into the path of comet Tempel 1.

...Deep Impact’s impactor spacecraft has adjusted its flight path in the second of three planned maneuvers that place the craft on a planned collision with comet Tempel 1.

...There is going to be a MASSIVE amount of images coming out of NASA over the next number of days as they clean up the raw stuff we've all seen so far.
