Reminder for those not familiar with the format: Parts of this book are like ordinary books, you just click on "next" like turning a page. Other parts are like this page: there are "links" that take you to other pages. Click on the words that are underlined and/or in color or both and you'll go to the page that it links to. Sometimes those links are words in a list, others are words in the text.
Most if the pictures are at reduced scale. You can click on many of them to see them in a larger size. Some of these larger versions, especially of maps, are very big so you'll have to scroll. A few (especially maps and antiques) were borrowed from the internet but most were ones I had on hand.
There are more pictures than are provided in this site, so as not to put all my eggs in one basket. At the end of each section/page there will be a paragraph that says:
There are additional pictures of the topic on this page. To see them you must go to http://pictags.karleklund.net by clicking on that phrase and then clicking on the appropriate tag in the list you'll see. Use the "back" button on your browser to return here.
It is often convenient to use the "back" button on your browser. But if you follow a couple of links and get lost, remember you can click on "Home" on any page to get back here.
The book is organized the way it is to make it easy to edit and update and to make it accessible while it is being updated. But it still takes a little effort to get a new thing set in correctly, so new material will be put on the internet in the form of "Blogs" (i.e., "web logs"). New pictures will be found by going to http://pictags.karleklund.net and clicking on the topic (or topics) you are interested in, or going to "new pix" and looking at the recent entries. For new text, go to "SVG Blog" .
