We mentioned above that the most sensible criticism that the creationists have made of Darwinian Evolution was that it violated the Principle of Entropy. They said that living things could only attain an organization that was more complex through divine intervention. No biological law consistent with physics, they said, could result in anything like man.
The Law of Survival of the Just-Barely-Fit also provides an answer for this criticism.
All else being equal, that organism that is most complex has the best chance of having a characteristic that does not directly affect its survival, so that the more complex the organism the better the chance of its having a lot of variations that are "just-barely-fit", and thus of the species surviving a change in the environment.
This means that when The Law of Survival of The Just-Barely-Fit is the operating principle complex organisms are favored and thus there is a tendency for evolution go from less complex to more complex organisms, despite what entropy requires of non-living systems.
Thus we could have evolved without the specific necessity of divine creation as long as the basic principle of evolution is the Law of Survival of the Just-Barely-Fit rather than "Survival of the Fittest". The Law of "Survival of the Fittest" does not favor complexity.
It also explains why we have gone on to be the dominant species on the globe. In addition to biological complexity we have that behavioral complexity we call "culture". We can wear heavy clothing and live inside shelters in cold climates and wear minimum clothing and live outdoors in warm climates. We can tolerate environments that would cause most of the other primates to go extinct in a generation or less. Survival of the Fittest would provide no motivation for the development of variations in culture.
The Law of Survival of the Just-Barely-Fit completely explains our position in the universe of biological organisms and the relationship of evolution to physics.
"Survival of the Fittest" neither explains the development of human culture nor is it consistent with physics.
