Page : EG0500; Title: Evolution

This is an extract from "Einstein's God and the Science of Zen" which can be found at "http://eingod.karleklund.net".

This section deals specifically with biological evolution rather than the social evolution that the rest of the book deals with. This section is centered on the controversy between creationists and Darwinians, which has never been settled because the Darwinians have made a serious basic mistake. Darwin was convinced by Spenser to formulate Natural Selection as "Survival of the Fittest", a formulation that serves to justify the priveleges of the social elite. We will demonstrate that the mathematically correct formulation is "Survival of the Just-Barely-Fit and Fitter" which demonstrates, among other things, that complexity is a natural survival factor and does not require an "Intelligent Designer". It also shows how altruism and cooperation are survival factors and that evolution does not require intraspecies conflict.

Since both the creationists and the Darwinians (or, more accurately, Spenserites) are dogmatic in their opinions neither side were able to spot the simple mathematical error that Darwin adopted from Spenser.
