JOE MEEK

From the Alamo Drafthouse :

If you don’t know the very strange story of Joe Meek, you’re missing a wild chapter in 1960s rock n roll. Britain’s first independent record producer, sonic innovator and father to studio geeks everywhere, Joe Meek recorded in his Holloway Road flat, stomped his feet in the bathroom for a bass drum sound, challenged the established record industry and created dozens of top hits, including, “Telstar”, “Johnny Remember Me” and many others. Meek was obsessed with the occult and would set up tape machines in graveyards in a vain attempt to record voices from beyond the grave. His efforts were often hindered by his paranoia, drug use and attacks of rage or depression, culminating in an unexplained murder-suicide in 1967. This made-for-TV doc contains fantastic rare vintage footage of recording sessions in Joe’s apartment, Screaming Lord Sutch on TV and insightful interviews. Preceded by a promo clip for Howard Berger’s upcoming documentary SOMETHING I’VE GOT TO TELL YOU: A LIFE IN THE DEATH OF JOE MEEK.
