LABRADOR PICTURES PAGE FIVE

TOP: Sunset late at night over my unnamed lake. During June, it remained somewhat light throughout the night with sunset as late as 10:30PM (2230) and sunrise about 4:00AM (0400). Seldom was the lake calm enough for photos such as this. BOTTOM: Typical Brook Trout (Salvilinus fontinalis), locally called "Speckled Trout", caught by friends Bill and his son. These specimens are in breeding condition resulting in the orange color. Brook Trout may reach eight pounds and more up here in Labrador; the specimen on the left is about three to four pounds (compare with the native Brookies of my upstate New York which might reach eight to ten inches; a one-pound brookie would be a trophy!). I didn't take the time to do any serious fishing, concentrating on ham radio. But, the first two trips in 1997 were for fishing, so maybe next trip...
