The continuous theme of my work is the wonder and curiosity that can be found in everyday life. I am particularly interested in accidental details which are normally ignored - half an onion starting to grow down the back of a kitchen cupboard; the folds in a leaf; crumbs on the carpet - these are investigated, sketched, researched; in the case of an onion I put it on the windowsill to grow, and took a sample of it's skin to look at down a microscope (the onion cells form the under-painting in Kitchen Evidence). I produce sketches and notes for each subject. When I come to produce the final artwork I try to express what it is in the object that has fascinated me.
