Mission Statement:
To use technology as an aide to learning in the content areas and in the process to increase the learner's skill in their use of technology.
Goals:
Grand Rapids Public Schools Technology Plan
Grand Rapids Christian Schools Technology Plan
METS (Michigan Educational Technology Standards)
Program Description
The Grand Rapids Puplic Schools Shared Time Program
This program, in a nutshell, provides various services (computer, Art, P.E., Language {Spanish}) to students in private or parachial school settings. This concept dates back to the 1970's, was challenged in court and terminated in 1985, but overruled and reestablished in 1998.
My perspective:
As much as possible, I try and integrate the use of technology with student work in the content areas. I work with the regular classroom teachers on content area projects whenever feasible. (flow chart of issues involved with integration)
I try integrate general computer usage and put a rather heavy emphasis on keyboarding skills. Such things as general computer skills (opening files, saving files, using the operating system) to more specific skills in word processing, spreadsheet, internet usage, and numerous software titles.
