OS X 10.1.2 is out. With that, AppleScript Studio applications are now
fully deployable across client machines. You will still need the December
2001 Developer Tools CD to get AppleScript Studio in Project Builder if
you wish to develop AppleScript Studio applications, though. ADC
membership is free, so do go sign up right away!

AppleScript
Studio is available to developers. If you are already one, just log
on to get the goods! Preliminary horsing around reveals (to me at
least) that it is logical, quick and relatively easy to deploy. If you
are already an experienced AppleScripter, this will open you up to a whole
new world. I have created a simple app that compiles some scripts I use
regularly (see screenshot
- 60KB). Next thing is to do a deployable version of the XML creation
script for OS X Server setups. Life is good...

Some geeky server/admin scripts are up. These are one of my most often
requested scripts, especiallly from institution sys admins. One thing
though - this is one of the first times I use them in OS X, and the speed
increase is awesome. One in particular takes about 70 seconds in OS 9
to parse 2000 records. In OS X, the same record takes about 10 seconds.
That's several hundred percent times faster!

Library 2.0 is out. This is an extremely useful library which works
along the principle of loading a 2nd script full of great subroutines
right at the beginning of your script, allowing you to call them anytime
you need. Fantastic functionality, with added bonus of allowing you to
make them completely portable. Its a 30 day demo, so you can decide if
the subroutines are useful before buying. Please pay for shareware!

Ok. Finally more presentable (ie. graphics). And more scripts. Remember
to email me your scripts if you think they are cool and others should
know of them. Will make you sure are credited, ok?

This page is not really well populated yet. I will post any news of interest
here as time goes by. Don't comprain-comprain lah! Only a 30 minute job
leh...
I have also received quite a number of feedback emails from the class
conducted at Informatics yesterday. Thanks to all who bothered; this will
help us refine and make a really good AppleScript course in the future.
Some Feedback of note (and response):
1. Projector in the lab was difficult to see - We have managed
to do the focussing properly today (finally). We will look into the brightness
problem with Informatics
2. The course was too fast for some - We will look into breaking up
the whole AppleScript course into 3 separate modules - Basic Syntax -
Covering most of the syntax, Advanced Scripting - Scripting the Finder
in detail, with a lot of assignment work, Scripting Applications - Covering
IE, Outlook and other requested apps.
3. Could not bring back own work during course - Next course, we'll
try to remind everyone to bring own CDRs, since the machines are SuperDrive
G4s anyway.
4. Need copies of demoed scripts - hence this website :)
Finally, please email me if you wanna be part of the Singapore AppleScript
Users Group. I need to show management here at Apple that it is a viable
option to get the resources.
