welcome to the sixth annual pipe festival in the villages of pencader and llanfihangel ar arth. the villages are situated in the teifi valley, about 12 miles north of carmarthen, in west wales on the b4459. every year we bring the best international and local pipers together for a feast of bagpiping and releated events.

the acoustic concerts take place in the ancient parish church in llanfihangel on the friday night and in yr hen gapel in pencader on the saturday night. concerts begin at around 7.30. later in the evenings there are music sessions in the local pubs. other events include an afternoon meal on the saturday featuring the finest local organic cuisine, a guided walk and some fun with coracles and traditional sports.

the festival, now in its sixth year, is built on a reputation of excellence where the highest international piping standards are presented in an acoustic, informal and intimate setting in two villages in rural west wales, pencader and llanfihangel-ar-arth. this years festival focuses on piping and horn-piping in wales, with an unrivalled guest-list of the foremost exponents of welsh piping today. as usual, there will be satellite activities including a guided walk to craig gwrtheyrn, sessions in the local pubs and a feast of local food and beer on saturday afternoon. admission to each concert is £5. admission to the feast is £10 and needs to be booked in advance as seating is limited. simple camping facilities are available free of charge in llanfihangel-ar-arth

stephen rees & andy mclauchlin



stephen and andy play in the group crasdant. stephen first came to prominence as a teenage member of the group ar log, before persuing an academic career as music lecturer at the university of wales, bangor.

andy mclauchlin hails from hemel hemstead and has played a prominent part in the musical life of north wales for many years, playing a variety of instruments in folk groups and dance bands.

diarmuid johnson



dysgodd diarmuid johnson ei gerddoriaeth yng ngalway, iwerddon yn y 70au, a chwarae ffliwt yn y sesiynau lleol yn ystod yr 80au. bu yn byw ac yn chwarae yn llydaw ac yn yr almaen cyn symud i ddyfed yn 2002.

diarmuid johnson (cardiff, 1965) was brought up in galway, ireland. he learned whistle during the 70s, and played flute in local sessions in the 80s. before moving to west wales, he lived and played in brittany and germany

rhodri smith



rhodri played with the group penderyn in the nineteen eighties. he is also a fine singer

ceri rhys matthews



ceri matthews from wales has spent a decade or more bringing back from extinction the welsh pipes and has created a beautiful music informed by the welsh language and song tradition.brian vallely, director william kennedy piping festival.

sarah and ceri are members of pibau pencader

jason lawday & martin leamon



jason has been piping with pibau pencader since its inception. he is also interested in french and breton piping and in particular, the veuze of eastern brittany. he teams up with martin leamon on accordion. a skilled multi instrumentalist, martin also plays guitar and bouzouki with welsh/estonian duo sild.

pencader is in the parish of llanfihangel ar arth. the villages are situated about a mile and a half from each other. both are small villages with little by way of commercial accommodation. about four miles away is the small town of llandysul which has guest houses and country inn accommodation.

accommodation in the parish is limited to free camping in the field behind the eagle in llanfihangel thanks to the generosity of morfydd and alun, the publicans. there are no facilities for washing etc., but the site is quiet and peaceful. no late night music please. information on nearby accommodation is available here pencader website and here llandysul pont-tyweli website
