BellyAcres, Hawaii -- July 2000 -- Activities

[Start] -- [Hawai'i] - Activities - [The Luau & BellyAcres] - [Cooking Hawaiian Style] - [Lava]
On this page I have a couple of photos from some of the activites during and around the festival.

As this was a Juggling Luau there certainly was a lot of juggling. But besides that we also had an acrobatics workshop! It's really amazing what you can learn in practically no time!

I didn't do much of the acrobatics (I prefer watching), but I spent a lot of time on a Rola Bola. Finally I got halfway comfortable with that thing after I almost broke my neck trying it a couple of years ago. (Yes, I know, I still look a little insecure on this photo...)
I'm not sure what to call this activity... The person hiding under all these spoons is Fritz. The trick here is to rub the plastic spoon on your face to build up static electricity (moisture helps too) and it adheres to your face. Now do this again and again and again and... till you look like Fritz. And don't breathe too much otherwise the things fall off!!!

We also had a couple of excursions. One activity that always sticks out at the festivals is a ride on Kiko's catamaran. Here it is still ahore.

This is not an off-the-shelf sports catamaran but a very traditional Hawaiian type!

It's a great platform for whalewatching or swimming or just sunbathing (or just working out, if you are more into the rowing part of the adventure)

A nice place for swimming, photographed from the boat.

And yes, in case you wonder. These are indeed "clouds". There is not only sunshine on Hawaii! Just think, how should there be rainbows if it never rains, right? And this side of Hawaii gets lots of rain.

And then, there was the Green Lake, which we visited several times. It's a lake in a cinder cone. The green color comes from algae growing in it, but it's totally safe to swim there. Just don't drink too much of the water -- otherwise you might turn into the Swamp Thing.

The Green Lake is on private property -- that is it's not publicly accessible. Fortunately Graham knows the owner so we had access. It would be a pity if we had missed this, right?

Favorite activity at the green lake: rope swinging!

Just climb up some rocks, grab the thing -- aaaiiieeeeiiiieeeiiiaaaaa!!!! and SPLASH

The "Green Lake" Jury mercilessly evaluated every jump.
There are very few people (and lots of fruit flies) at the Green Lake. It's totally surrounded by forest, a large part of it fruit trees (papaya, mango,...)

We did several other excursions:

Warm Ponds (warm volcanic springs enter a small bay under water. Result: bathtub water)

Turtle ponds. Very nice for swimming. Unfortunately, the turtles were on vacation where we showed up.

And the photo on the left if from our trip to Rainbow Falls.
