Here are some images from BRAG'98 - pretty much mixed together as they came along. Enjoy! (created 7/5/1998)

[Part 1] --- [Part 2] --- [Addendum]

This year I rode BRAG on my new roadbike. Just before
BRAG I outfitted it with Breeze-Bars and a 'hood ornament' that squeaks
- after all we want to do this in style. Note the old-fashioned thingies to tie a horse to (no clue what they are called). |

Breeze-Bars are the silver handle bars that stick
out front in the middle. They are useful for coasting downhill, or just
to relax your back for a while. Their drawback: you have much less control
over your bike while you are lying on them, but you also have much less
air resistance...
The black round pads swing down and to the side to support your elbows when you use the bars. That way you can still use the normal handlebars when they are folded back in the up position. |

It was HOT! Temperatures over 100deg happened almost every day. Good that we were sponsored by Powerade, among others. |
![]() |
It was so hot that some people resort to unconventional methods of cooling off - like pointing water guns at other people's heads... |
![]() |
Yes, it was sooooo hot that the lake completely dried out! Watch that boat sitting right on the route! |
![]() |
...and the bugs were everywhere! |
![]() |
But then we saw the glint of a water body through the trees... |

Without a further thought we are all in the warm brown water of Lake Lanier. Oops - forgot to take off my gear first...? Well, who cares - all that matters is *WET*... |
![]() |
..ugh - ogh - agh - slippery stones...! |
![]() |
*Splash*
Well, actually the water was approx. bathtub temperature, but riding in dripping wet clothes helped!!! |

Evening entertainment: "The Roaches" (I said already
there were bugs everywhere, right?).
Actually these roaches are really nice. They are a Beatles look-alike and play-alike and generally do-alike band (with 'historic instruments') and they are really good. The girls screamed like in a real Beatle event. I just wonder how these guys survive being on stage in these outfits for 2 hours when we have almost 100 deg and almost 100% humidity - oh - I forgot - they are roaches after all ;)) |

But the evenings are only short interruptions in our
gruesome quest to cross this dry deserted, devoid of anything but sand and
rocks and - oops... wrong trip...
Yes it was hot and humid, but there were always nice places to chill out in the shade and soak in the beauty of the place... |
