A couple of photos from Amsterdam

May 2000 was the WWW9 Conference in Amsterdam, Netherlands. Quite a beautiful city, but also quite dirty in some places. Although I very much enjoy the romantic canals (gracht) and all the narrow houses etc, I don't felt really comfortable in that city. There are just too many weird people hanging out there. (I mean -- what can you think of a city that lets people like me through their gates, right?)

The center, especially the areas where the tourists go, has a very hectic feel to it which I didn't like. Almost like New York with more water in it... Sort of. But different.

Anyway. I'm too busy to write real a travel report this time, although I have a number of interesting (?) comments to these photos in my head. Sorry, got to learn distance mind reading, folks... Maybe I'll write some more captions or a real report some time in the distant future.

In case you wonder: these pages were created using Epson Photo Factory and then handedited using BBEdit. The thumbnails on this page link to larger versions of the photos. When I moved this collection to the new site I hand-edited the pages again to clean up the design of the pages.
