fuyutsuki speaks urgently with ikari. The Number #2 man at NERV HQ is unquestionably Vice-Commander Kouzou Fuyutsuki. When Ikari is absent, he commands. He goes with Ikari to important meetings about super-secret operations.

Although he often complains that the commander always leaves the most tedious work for him to do.

Fuyutsuki: (speaking to Asuka and Shinji) "Listen up, you two. Do you
know what your job is?"
Asuka: "Piloting Eva."
Fuyutsuki: "No! Your job is to defeat the Angels. NERV does not exist
to make grotesque displays like this. Therefore, you two must cooperate."
Asuka and Shinji: "Why should we?!"
Fuyutsuki: "Enough already!"

kaji makes a suggestion to fuyutsuki.He is the president of the Marduk Institute, which means he knows exactly what the children at First City Junior High School are to be used for.

He is respected by those under his command. And he is feared by those in the Japanese government and in SEELE for what he knows.

Ritsuko: "The Vice Commander is pretty angry. You'll certainly be demoted if you embarrass him again."
Misato: "It was good luck within bad luck that Commander Ikari wasn't here."
Ritsuko: "If he'd been here, you'd have been fired before he ever saw these."

a young gendou approaches professor fuyutsuki.He is in the know on most of the happenings in NERV.

But at one time, Professor Fuyutsuki vehemently opposed the workings of Ikari and the organization known as SEELE. He was invited to venture to the remains of the Antarctica as one of the members of a UN sponsored research team to seek out the cause of the Second Impact.

"My first impression of him was that he was a total son of a bitch," Fuyutsuki said of Ikari.

He suggested to Ikari that if the official investigation team had only been made up of SEELE personnel, then there would have been trouble, so he and other non-SEELE researchers were being used as political pawns. He believed the men in power were purposely misleading the people, obscuring the truth of the Second Impact with doctored images and documented lies.

And they were.

The UN officially announced that the Second Impact was caused by a massive meteorite. Fuyutsuki made it his duty to find out the truth. He dared collect evidence against this powerful organization and stand before Ikari with his findings. He succeeded mainly in annoying Ikari.

Fuyutsuki: "Why did you conceal the existence of the Giant of Light?
You knew that the Second Impact was going to happen, didn't you?
You may have said that it was just luck that you returned the day
before it happened but how do you explain the fact that you brought
back copies of all the documentation?"
Ikari: "I'm surprised that those weren't destroyed."

the professor in close up.Fuyutsuki was not far from the truth. SEELE deliberately caused to the Second Impact. SEELE deliberately awoke the Angels when NERV was prepared to deal with them. SEELE put together the necessary pieces and sparked the dangers in order to bring humanity to the END they sought for themselves, the ultimate Evolution.

Fuyutsuki impressed Ikari a great deal. What do you do with a knowledgeable, fearless enemy? You make him your ally. Keep your friends close, but keep your enemies closer.

Ikari: "Our project to revive Adam is referred to as
Project E. This is EVA Unit 00, our system prototype."
Fuyutsuki: "The prototype of a God?"
Ikari: "Fuyutsuki, let us create a new genesis for
humanity together.

as a professor he looks ingenuous.More important to Fuyutsuki than the truth of the Second Impact or angels or EVAs was Yui Ikari. Perhaps some of the passion he carried in the fight against Ikari stemmed from having lost Yui to him.

It was commonly known by insiders that Ikari sought the companionship of Yui Ikari because of her talent in biotechnology and the backbone system behind her, known as SEELE. professor speaks with yui on a hiking trip.

That is not entirely true. Ikari loved Yui. And he spent the rest of his life trying to get her back.

Fuyutsuki knew this and he knew how much Yui had loved Ikari. He spent a lot of time with her and a young Shinji, just talking. Part of his reason for staying with Gehirn was to keep his close relationship with her.

And he too believed that Ikari could bring her back. Even if she would be in another man's arms, she would be alive and he would have his friend back.

Fuyutsuki: "Approximately one group has come in. The
takeover is only a matter of time."
Ikari: "Professor Fuyutsuki, I'll leave the rest to you."
Fuyutsuki: "I understand. Say hello to Yui for me."

fuyutsuki receives his peace.Undoubtedly, Ikari knew of Fuyutsuki's feelings for his wife. Undoubtedly, they both remembered her with love and knew how the other felt in some way. That they were able to work well together for fourteen years, speaks to their professionalism and strength of character.

The most interesting facet of Fuyutsuki's character is that he loved Yui in relative silence. And in a way, she loved him more than she loved Ikari. Yui-Eva 01 took Ikari's life without a hint of affection. But Yui-Rei, with a piece of Yui's soul within her, came to him at the hour of death and gave him peace.
