FOURTH CHILDREN
Touji Suzuhara. Hey! No one else believed this one either, not even Touji. His career did not last long. He agreed to pilot a unit if his young sister could be transferred to NERV's medical facilities. It has been noted that he speaks with an Osakan accent. He's a very dedicated big brother. He's one of those kids who sports a hot temper and won't wear the school uniform.
His best friend is Kensuke Aida, a military otaku, who's father is in an American branch of NERV. But like the others, Touji and Kensuke are motherless as well. Touji operates EVA 03, the second production model, which was assembled at the First Branch in the US.
The Class Representative Hikari Horaki -- has fallen in love with him, because she thinks him kind and gentle beneath the tough exterior. She admires him for his devotion to his little sister and she does get a little jealous when she sees Rei talking to Touji. She makes obentoo for him.
According to Asuka, Touji, Kensuke, and Shinji together make up the Three Stooges.
FIFTH CHILDREN
Kaoru Nagisa (Kaoru of the Seashore). He is definitely not your normal, everyday 14-year-old boy.
Fuyutsuki: "Down 0.3 more."
Maya: "Yes sir."
Fuyutsuki: "Is there a mistake in this reading?"
Hyuga: "The testing system is operating normally."
Maya: "No data error detected by Magi."
Fuyutsuki: "It's surprising that this boy synchronizes with unit two before the core has been replaced."
Maya: "I can't believe. I mean, it's impossible with this system."
Misato: "Nevertheless it's a fact. We must accept it and then investigate the cause."
He is like Rei. His eyes are red and his hair is a pale gray, almost white. His meaning, his reason for being is the same as Rei's. Like her, the record of his life has been deleted. But his birthday is noted as the very day of the Second Impact.
Misato: "The Committee sent him directly to us. He has something."
He was sent directly from SEELE to act as the Fifth Child and to pilot Unit 02 as Asuka has been removed from the active pilot list indefinitely.
But Kaoru also comes to Tokyo-3 after Touji and Kensuke have gone away because of the destruction of their home. He comes to Tokyo-3 at a time when Shinji is badly in need of a friend. Shinji can no longer talk to Rei at this point because he has been shown the place where she was created, along with all of her spares. He cannot speak to Asuka because she too has lost herself.
Kaoru: "I might have been born to meet you."
Kaoru was created and given the soul of another entity. He was made to create an incident. And yet existence as a human has created in him a will of his own. He did not have to befriend Shinji. He did not have to die.
Although he was going down to Terminal Dogma to join with his alternate self, Adam the father of all beings, he found Lilith. He could have given EVA 02 a soul. He could have completed humanity as SEELE desired. But he chose not to.
Shinji: "Kaoru-kun, why?"
Kaoru: "I've been destined to live forever, although people will be annihilated as the result. However, I am able to die. To be or not to be, that makes no difference to me. My death is the only absolute freedom."
Shinji: "What, What are you talking about? Kaoru-kun! I understand what are you talking about! Kaoru-kun!"
Kaoru: "My dying words. Now, please erase me, otherwise you will be erased. ... You are not the one who must die. You have a future. Thank you. I am glad to see you again."The chosen five are not the only ones who can be used as material for piloting EVA
The MARDUK INSTITUTE is an advisory body controlled by the Instrumentality Committee to select Evangelion pilots. The charter members include, Chairman Keel, Commander Ikari, and Vice-Commander Fuyutsuki, who is also listed as Marduk's president.
But, in truth, the institute does not exist. It's a sham. NERV pulls all the strings. Code 7-0-7 relates to First City Junior High School, which functions as a kind of holding pin. All the perspective candidates to operate Evangelion have been rather conveniently gathered together for their protection and, of course, for easy access.
The effects of scientific creation subvert the significance of human procreation. And so, the children born of mother and father are abandoned and enslaved to the children born of technology and arrogance.
