the best of anime
What do I mean by the best? As with everything truly meaningful, I'm talking subjectively. I'm not an expert by any means. I'm not about film techniques over traditional ideas of character and plot. I will always take great storytelling over brash new concepts or pretty pictures. All anime have a story to tell, but how that story is told makes all the difference for me. Whether episodic or a complex linear plot, I don't care if I don't care about the characters; I don't care if I'm not into the story.
So what makes something the best? When a cool concept manages to bring together compelling characters and smart storytelling. That's what happened with the first seven seasons (excluding most episodes on the Mythology and the movie) of the X-Files or the first season of Twin Peaks.
There's nothing better than getting excited about watching awesome anime or, in my case, waiting for the boxes to come in and ripping into the packaging to hold a new session or the next episode in my hands. It's like being a kid at Christmastime all over again!
