A fresh new business has opened in Hanapepe Town
by Linda Pascatore
A fresh new business has opened in Hanapepe Town. If you have driven across the one lane bridge headed west towards Salt Pond in the past week or so, you may have noticed some young entrepeneurs enticing passersby to stop by waving wildly and holding “Open--Free Coffee” signs.
We couldn’t figure out what it was that was open, but we took the bait and stopped by to see. We found three friends; Craig Darr, Ed Justus, and his wife, Cynthia Powell. They are opening a new business, Talk Story Books, Coffee and Curiosities; Our Community Gathering Place. It is a used book store with a coffee house feeling.
The venture began with Ed, who has had a successful business selling used books on E Bay for the past two years. He needed a place to store his evergrowing stock of books.
His friend Craig had always wanted to run his own business, and the idea of a bookstore/coffee house/community gathering place really appealed to him. So Ed will supply Craig with the books.
The third piece of the enterprise is Cynthia. She loves to bring people together, and already has plans for a variety of activities that will be offered at Talk Story. Some of the potential community events include music and hula performances, a movie night, keiki story hours, poetry reading, game nights, and workshops.
The store will also feature a selection of interesting curiosities. They are accepting merchandise from vendors on consignment as well. The three partners practice Feng Shui. The shop is still a work in progress, but it has a very relaxed, welcoming feeling already.
During our visit, we enjoyed browsing the books and talking story with Craig, Ed and Cynthia. We are excited at the prospect of having a social gathering place to hang out and find some coffee, conversation, and maybe some reading recommendations. We recommend you stop by and visit Talk Story. They are located on Hanapepe Road west of the one-lane bridge.Talk Story Bookstore
