2008 Rules
Rules may be
changed only with the approval of the Board of Directors of
Rye Little League.

Rye Little League
is in complete compliance with the National Little League
pitch count requirements this year. These rules apply to
pitchers in both the National and Major Leagues and are as
follows:
League
Age (as of April 30,
2008)
11
and 12 year olds - 85 pitches per day
9
and 10 year olds -
75
pitches per day
Exception: If a pitcher reaches the limit imposed for
his/her league age while
facing a batter, the pitcher may continue to pitch until
that batter reaches base or
is put out.
Pitchers must
adhere to the following rest
requirements:
•
If a player pitches 61 or more pitches in a day, three (3)
calendar days of rest
•
If a player pitches 21 - 40 pitches in a day, one (1)
calendar days of rest
•
If a player pitches 1-20 pitches in a day, no (0) calendar
day of rest
Major League - please see your
coach for a complete set of rules.
National League
Regular Little
League rules with the following exceptions:
1. No stealing. No leading off base.
2. One base on an overthrow.
3. Each player may play a maximum of three innings at the
same position per game.
4. Players will pitch to the opposing team. There are no
walks. After 4 balls, coach will pitch.
5. An umpire will call strikes (no walks).
6. The home team is responsible for providing an umpire.
7. Innings end with the third out. If a team goes through
the entire batting line up in one inning with fewer than
two outs, then the umpire will announce that there are
automatically two outs. The inning must end on a natural
third out.
8. All players on the team roster will be in the batting
lineup at all times.
9. All games will be five innings unless called by
darkness, weather, or 11/2 hour in length. (Games end with
a complete inning).
10. There may be unlimited substitutions in the defensive
lineup and each player must play a minimum of six outs.
11. Male catcher must wear a protective cup. Players must
be in uniform: Caps and shirts (no shorts).
Rain Outs: Coaches to determine if field is suitable for
play. Rainouts can be made up on Friday nights if agreed to
by both coaches.
American
League
Regular Little
League rules with the following exceptions:
1. No stealing. No leading off base.
2. One base on an overthrow.
3. Male catcher must wear a protective cup. Players must be
in uniform: Caps and shirts – (no shorts).
4. An umpire will call strikes (no walks).
5. The home team is responsible for providing an umpire.
6. Innings end with the third out. If a team goes through
the entire batting line up in one inning with fewer than
two outs, then the umpire will announce that there are
automatically two outs. The inning must end on a natural
third out.
7. All players on the team roster will be in the batting
lineup at all times.
8. All games will be five innings unless called by
darkness, weather, or 1½ hour in length. (Games will end

3. Parents will be the pitcher and catcher. If the child
has not hit after 3 pitches, the tee stand will be used.
4. The home team is responsible for providing an umpire.
5. Innings end with the third out. If a team goes through
the entire batting line up in one inning with fewer than
two outs, then the umpire will announce that there are
automatically two outs. The third out is made by making a
natural out.
6. All players on the team roster will be in the batting
lineup at all times.
7. All games will be five innings unless called by
darkness, weather, or 1½ hour in length. Games will end
with a complete inning.
8. There may be unlimited substitutions in the defensive
lineup and each player must play a minimum of six outs.
9. Players must be in uniform: Caps and shirts (no
