Summary: This book is the second in the series by this author. This was not clear when I purchased this book. This would also not be evident by the title of the book for non-Yoruba speakers.

My best friend is Nigerian and they were confused by this book. It seems to be for more advanced speakers and those who are interested in learning how to write or the details of the language. This book is not for beginners.

Summary: This is an excellent textbook, but a little weak on grammar. I suggest consulting the out-of-print _Teach Yourself Yoruba_ (E.C. Rowlands) or something similar if you want more grammatical depth. The book is actually still in print, but neither Amazon nor Yale University Press seems to want to sell it. Try the National African Language Resource Center at the University of Wisconsin-Madison...they also sell two CDs with the audio material for the book--indispensable!
