2d CAD

This 3D model has been done using Autocad r13 and AEC 4 as CAD applications. From a 2D drawing with the basic urban data, building volumes were built using Autocad solid modelling tools. A preferred view for the model was chosen, and a hidden line isometric was generated.
The coloring and text insertion were done using PaintShop Pro 4.
This type of image edition has many disadvantages, related mainly to the high number steps involved to get the desired results, and the lack of flexibility for changes or information addition.

2d CAD

This 3D model was generated with Bentley Triforma. In it drawn entities are registered as forms, rather than vectors. Forms are editable building elements, to which is possible to attach attributes and materials.
To allow a quick visualisation of the result, a hidden line isometric was generated. This type of rendering beside being the oldest one available in CAD systems, has the added advantage of being faster than others. It's main disadvantage is the limited context information that it can convey, it's still too abstract to be effectively used as communication tool.
