2d CAD

This image shows the selected site 2d survey plan done using Microstation 95. As most of the CAD applications existing today, its main use is focused on the optimization of the drafting process; and this is achieved exploiting the advantages inherent to computing processing.

In this class of CAD application, drawn entities (lines) are defined as vectors, bearing specific spatial coordinates, which ones are translated into binary code and stored into the computers memory. This allows the easy recall and repetition of stored geometries, with complete accuracy, saving drafting and coordination time.

Another carachteristic is the use of layering codes, dividing the drawing entities in a set of predefined layers according to its content and meaning. This fact permits the inclusion, revision and coordination of the many subsystems that interact within an architectural project. The most common complain about this approach to the use of CAD, it's that is limited to be at the receiving end of the design process, just accelerating the process of already existent information, and not changing or adding anything to it.

This 2D floor plan was generated from a 3D model within Bentley Triforma. It conveys technical information related to the building characteristics of the project. As the tridimensional model is modified , the resultant floor plans and sections are updated accordingly. This type of process emphasizes the modelling stage of the design over the actual production of working documents.
