![]() Retail Shops and Warehouses along London Rd. The recent buildings erected in the site date mainly from the early 1960's; and do not relate in any way to the importance of the site. Mostly are one to two stories high, and are used as retail shops or pubs among other uses.Althought their presence is not relevant in architectural terms, their value from the economic and social point of view is evident, and are the only profitable structures there today. ![]() Railway Line and Back of Mercat Bldg. The presence of the railway line has established a virtual border between Glasgow Cross/Trongate and the East side of Glasgow. ![]() Mercat Building from Trongate looking towards the east The actual perception of this area today is a sort of finishing point for the continuity of the structures on central Glasgow; the Mercat building and the Toolbooth tower mark this point. |
