The historic relevance of this area is reflected in the character of some of the remaining buildings, like the Mercat building (1923) part of a Gillespie's plan to re-shape the whole area.
Another relevant structures are; the train bridge archway (today used as a warehouse shop) and some tenement buildings dating from the 1890's.
