The old road to Gallowgate is the other element that defines
the final shape and location of Glasgow Cross as the old civic centre of the city.
The axis existing the Cathedral and Glasgow Cross is part of
the urban form of the city since medieval times.
The urban fabric of this area has been affected by the presence
of rail lines since the end of the 19th. century. Secondary in charachter they
offer the possibility of linking the rail network of north and south of the
city, divided at the moment.
