Rendering

Rendering capabilities enhance the simulation capabilities of average CAD programs, making accurate modelling more affordable and less time consuming, compared with other manual techniques such as photography montages.
The addition of sunlight and shadow variables, as well as material patterns bring the final result closer to the built form. The information conveyed in a rendered image can vary in detail and accuracy, but generally it can be understood more easly the wire framed and non rendered models. Also can be used as £D templates for later edition with drawing programs.

Despite all this advantages, there are still many debatable issues around the usefulness of rendered images as effective communication means. Environmental variables, such as weather, pollution and use are still missing from this tecniques, giving rendered models a "surreal" feeling. On the other hand is open to the discussion what is the purpose for photorealistic images, of unbuilt forms.

The trasmission of rendered images over the Internet has to consider aspects related to file format, colors, size and bandwidht. Preferred formats are those used commonly over the net, mainly GIF and JPG, and using a reduced color table (256 colors max.)that can be used by most of the browsers available on the market.
Size is important in regard to the page download time that can be spent to see the image; in addition the control of the general page layout has to contemplate how images are to be treated by different browsers.
One advantage that the internet offers is the possibility of access to this kind of information without the need of special graphic software or viewers, making possible for any web enabled computer to see, copy and print this type of information.
