Whoa . . . Things don't always go as planned, do they? My trip to the Marquette area for the UP200, Midnight Run and Jack Pine 30 was an adventure, to say the least! Because of the blizzard conditions, I could not complete the drive to my motel Thursday evening. I slept in my car in a gas station parking lot. With similar weather forecast for Friday evening, I was more than a little leery about traveling after dark again, so I opted to skip the downtown start of the UP200. Then my plans to photograph the Jack Pine 30, Saturday morning, were thwarted by a car that refused to start in the sub-zero temps. The gracious owner of the Village Inn Motel in Chatham worked on my car all morning. The motor refused to purr again until 1:00 that afternoon. With rumors in the air that the weather to the east was still severe enough to threaten to shorten the UP200, I made the decision to head for the Pine River Run sprint race in Merrill, WI. More car woes there, but I did manage to get great some shots of the teams on Sunday. . . . so now I'm back home, happy to have arrived safe and sound, hoping that all other travelers completed their journeys safely as well.
