He
was most recently seen as Beauty Queen in Beautiful Se–oritas at
the Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center. Other
performances include Poppy in Habibi at
Jump-Start Performance Theatre, and Federico Garc’a Lorca/Narrator
in The Butterfly's Evil Spell at San Antonio College. Mr.
De Le—n began his theatrical career in his hometown, Laredo, Texas,
performing in roles such as Lt. Cable in South Pacific, Tristano
in The Company of Wayward Saints, Emcee in Cabaret, Merlin
in Camelot, and Fagin in Oliver. He served
as Artistic Administrator and Director for the Laredo Community
Theater and directed Medea, My Three Angels, The Miracle Worker, and Mister
Angel.
In addition
to acting and directing, Mr. De Le—n writes and creates his
own dramas. Since 1992, he has created
and performed one-man dramas, Mark's Gospel: A Drama of Hope and St.
Francis of Assisi: A Musical. In 2002, he premiered El
Encuentro/The Encounter: Juan Diego and the Virgin of Guadalupe. He
has toured throughout the United States and Ireland earning recognition among
diverse communities of different denominations.
His current
project, Lorca, another one-man performance, is based
on the life and works of Spain's best -known poet and one of the
most significant writers of the twentieth century, Federico Garc’a
Lorca. This production premiered on October 24, 2003 at the
Carver Community Cultural Center.
Mr. De
Le—n makes his home in San Antonio and remains active in writing,
performing and recording. An
accomplished baritone vocalist, he has recorded a collection
of original bilingual love songs, On Borrowed Time, and
a traditional Indian chant, Bengali Lullaby, available
on CD. He
speaks Spanish fluently, plays piano and writes music.
