Chili Outside

Chili outside
(Yes, I spelled it right
(Or right enough methinks))

Meat, spices, and peppers
(Never the same twice
(Recipes are only suggestions))

Simmered to perfection
(Only a guess, of course
(You never know until day two))

The big, shiny, metal pot
(It truly ought to be cast iron
(Would that really taste different?))

Carried out to the garage
(No room in the refrigerator
(It's a tradition by now))

Left to chill overnight
(See? It all comes together
(A method to my madness))

Snow Day

by Lily Rohrbach, Age 10

Snow glistening on the floor
But the heavens decided we needed more
It snowed until it was two feet high
Then suddenly school said good bye

I'm sitting here all alone
With my sister asleep and my parents not home
My two kitty cats silently asleep
Nobody's making one tiny peep
