Racing Down The Mountain

Racing down the mountain
Sure to stumble and fall
Leaping from rock to rock
Going faster and faster
The final crash inevitable

No point at all to the speed
No glory in being the first
To make it to the bottom
No purpose served by racing
Other than the exhileration

All thoughts blown away
By the laughing wind
The smiling sun looks on
Even birds give up the chase
Of the nimble-footed gnome

Suddenly launched into the air
A surprised look on his face
The cliff's edge seen too late
Nothing for it but a hope
That he can grow wings
