A Single Word Landing

A single word landing
Like a well thrown pebble
Ripples spreading out
Through the conversation

Whispered here and there
With a wink and a nudge
Shouted there and here
With a cheer and hurrah

Each parallel ripple
Unique in its own right
Some nearly a wave
Others into nothing

That first stone sinking
Beneath the dark waters
Disappearing from sight
And leaving only ripples

Cleaning Day

by Lily Rohrbach, Age 10

Sponges, towels, mops, and brooms
Cleaning out the filthy rooms
Dust the floors, scrub the doors
Shiny, shiny floors and doors

Next the windows squeaky clean
And the lawn gnomes must not lean
Washing, scrubbing, drying, rinsing
Then we have to put in fencing

Sheets in washer
Clothes in dryer
At last a rest
We've done our best
