After the mechanics
Comes the expression
So many pieces heard
Note by laborious note
Until that magic day
When all of a sudden
And out of nowhere
We hear not just notes
But whole measures
Of brilliant beauty
Extended all the more
With every new practice
The measures giving way
Not as vanquished foe
But faithful trusted ally
The music freed at last
To express the girl who
Has been there all along
