Heard years ago
Smiled at and nodded
Though not understood
Never forgotten
The punchline becoming
A mantra to be used
Whenever appropriate
Carried and cherished
An old and dear friend
Until out of nowhere
An enlightening flash
A chuckle at first
Then laughing out loud
As much at myself as at
