A Tangled Arc

A tangled arc
Of ripe red flesh
Curling from the knife
To land on the counter below
Revealing the pale juicy fruit beneath

His mouth watering
His hand deft and and sure
His eyes glittering in anticipation
He raises the apple to his lips
And takes the first bite
Of a glorious day
