Smoke And Mirrors

Smoke and mirrors
Give the illusion
Of seeing something
For other than it is
And we feel safe
Behind our masks

We pose and prance
Before the crowd
Playing for applause
Balanced on the wire
And hoping against hope
That we don't fall

The act so complete
That we come at last
To believe that it
Is truly who we are
Never to remove the makeup
Even when all alone
