Chaplain In Iraq

CH Combs is a chaplain in Iraq right now. He is in my denomination and my endorser sent this along to other chaplains. I found it a very interesting and wise take on human aid there. Pay special attention to the second paragraph.

FYI Ch Combs

Hello family, friends and supporters! Many of you have asked about what to send for the soldiers. To tell you the truth, our soldiers are very well taken care of and have very few needs that can be sent in the way of care packages. The few items that have been requested are boot inserts/cushions, road snacks (such as peanut butter crackers, jerky, etc.) and various forms of chocolates (which often melt before it arrives). We have an abundant supply of free toiletries and things in our "supply" room in our UMT office. Some have already talked about sending general notes of encouragement to my address and then I can pass them out or posty them for soldiers to see first hand what you all think of them and our mission. It's great for them to know that not only are thousands of their countrymen praying and supporting them, but also to see what some of them are saying and thinking.

Even more, however, the Iraqi children have needs. We have opportunities to go out in the communities and pass out clothes, shoes/sandals, school supplies, candy, backpacks, toys and soccer balls--they really love soccer balls. Most of the soccer balls I've seen are in very poor condition. Several soldiers have already received such things from home and have already distributed them. We would like to do much more. So, if you can and feel lead to do so, please send any of these items to me at my address here. I will be sure that they get distributed on our missions. Please be careful not to include anything blatantly religious or otherwise offensive. They see my cross that I wear and know who I am and what I represent. They also believe that Americans generally are Christians. Therefore, they realize Who we represent. As we do it appropriately, it does not give insurgents or those holtile to Americans and C hristians in general more cause for accusations that would increase hostility towards us. To every season, there is a time. As God works through us and in the hearts and lives of the Iraqi people, He, which only He can really do, will bring about change.
