Its late (for me) and the Matrix is playing in
the background dully intoning quasi philosophy as I write about this Valentines
Day. It was a great service. It was pouring.
The rain just kept coming, and coming, and
coming. It got colder and colder. But, as the saying goes, "if it ain't raining,
we ain't training." It was raining and we were training. No one wanted to go
first so I said that I would do it. The most common comment after was that it
seemed like I had been doing it all my life. I guess thats interesting cause
everyone also seems surprised to find out that I am just turned 26. They all
think that I am younger. So there we were, a bunch of chaplains trying to string
up a parachute so that there would be some kind of protection from the rain. It
worked and the service went as planned. I had to work hard to keep my guitar
from getting wet. It was rather difficult and not quite successful, but it
worked. I had many complements and challenged the other chaplains. Several
looked rather uncomfortable when I got direct about Christ. Its interesting that
even though I was reading from the same Bible they purport to believe in and
they still didn't like to be confronted with truth. It was fun. The solid
evangelicals told me that they were grateful and surprised at the evangelistic
approach that I took. (btw - the sermon got even more evangelistic when I
preached it, it always does) I had 20 minutes and I took nineteen to get it
done. I was really happy about the result. Now I
really
want to get to my unit!
