2/121

Here's how it works. There is the 48th BDE (Brigade) its connected to the 3rd ID (Infantry Division) WIthin the BDE there are six battalions.

In each battalion there are 2-3 companies (Alpha, Bravo, Charlie) and always a HHC (company headquarters). In the 48th (Mechanized Infantry - this means that we do not march anywhere if we can avoid it, we ride in nice comfortable armored vehicles - guess which part of that was not true...) Anyway, in the 48th you have this setup:

1st and 2nd 121st Infantry
108th Armor
118th Field Artillery
648th Engineer battalion
148th Forward Support battalion
108th Cavalry
I am in the 2nd Battalion, 121st Infantry, 48th Brigade

From here on I will refer to my unit as either "second foot," or 2/121. Here's the deal, Alpha company of first foot just got added to second foot. That means that my battalion just got bigger. I now have almost a thousand soldiers under my care. I like the way the British navy used to refer to their sailors - as souls. I have almost a thousand souls under my direct care.

Tomorrow will be the first time that I meet them. I am heading down to Fort Stewart to meet the command, my Brigade chaplain, my chaplain assistant, and do several services and communion for the troops. I am defiantly in that excited/nervous mode. I always get nervous doing what I have never done. I will be preaching on doubt contrasting John 1 and Luke 7. Do pray that God will use it in the lives of my soldiers.

You never get a second chance to make a first impression. Crap, I don't think I'll get any sleep tonight!!
