Initial reactions
Just got back from the debate, where my good
friend, MZ, and I were drafted into carrying a banner, which read, if I recall
correctly, "Another unpaid volunteer for Lamont", or something to that
effect.Much too tired for anything
except some random observations.It
would be refreshing if just once, someone (Ned included) would actually answer
the questions that are asked. Schlesinger was the big offender on that score in
this one. The question, is it productive to frame as a battle between good (the
U.S.) versus evil (everyone else). Answer: we have to start keeping immigrants
out of the country. Even Stephanopoulos was moved to ask that the question be
repeated. It might actually have been interesting to hear each candidate
actually directly answer that question. None of them did. For that matter, there
were very few responses that directly answered the question
posed.I don't know how much of the
disruption came across on TV. My immediate reaction was that it was Joe's hired
thugs trying to set up Lamont, but my wife says Connecticut Bob discovered they were
Larouchites. No doubt we'll have a week of Joe blaming Ned.
Schlesinger handled it well; he's a great
showman.Speaking of Schlesinger, it
appeared to me that he got Joe to agree to another debate. I hope they hold him
to it. The more exposure Al gets, the better, and I do think Ned is improving
with every debate. Joe was better too, I must admit-he got the whining more
under control.
