Greetings from our Nation's Capital

While I am sure Bush did something horrible today, I am at this moment blissfully unaware of the precise nature of the latest travesty, since for the most part I have been incommunicado with the wider world.

We spent the day on an Amtrak train, which, by the way was very comfortable with ample leg room. Preferable to flying in every way. We got to our hotel where I had to struggle to get our internet connected. They just installed monstrously big new television sets (which we will almost certainly never watch) in every room, but in the process removed the LAN connections, and the wireless only works intermittently. Eventually the hotel sent up a very nice tech guy who installed a LAN thingie, and we're all set.

Tomorrow it's off to whatever it is we're off to, to celebrate the transfer of power and the swearing in of Joe Courtney. So far as we know, my wife and I are one half of the Groton contingent, though we're hoping to discover other Grotonites tomorrow. Here's the entire known contingent at the Thunder Grill at Union Station (picture taken by my long suffering oldest son):

That's Paul and Liz Duarte on the left; my wife and I on the right. There being an Irish Pub here in our hotel (the Phoenix Park Hotel), my wife and I went there after dinner and raised a glass to the new order:

We liked to think that some of the folks around us were uprooted Republicans crying in their beer. That's mean, isn't it?

So far we haven't seen any other Nutmeggers, but that will change tomorrow when we witness the historical moment.

So, anyway, what stupid thing did Bush do today?
