3a. THE CHILDREN OF PHILIP & BARBARA WIANT

revised june, 2008

1. HENRY W. was born March 28, 1817 and died Sep 19, 1869. He was buried in Newry Lutheran Cemetery (aged 52/5/22 - John Wyant). He came to Bedford County from Mifflin County with his parents about 1837 and was listed in the 1850 census of Middle Woodbury, Bedford County. In 1860 he was listed in Middle Woodbury with his wife, Mary, 27, and children Samuel, 9, Mary, 4, and Henry, 2. Henry served in Co K 148th PA Infantry from September 6, 1862 to April 2, 1864 when he was discharged on a Surgeon's Certificate (John Wyant). Following his death the 1870 census of Middle Woodbury lists Amanda Weyant, aged 7 in the family of David and Mary Stoner. This is presumably another child of Henry and Mary. Research of John Wyant also shows Sarah Elizabeth born about 1865. These children are described further in the fourth generation. Henry's wife was born Miller according to the death certificate of her son Henry. She remarried after Henry's death Fred Streik and was listed in the 1880 census as Mary Strich with her children Samuel Longenecker 29, Mary 24, Henry 22, Maggie 19, Leah 17, Elizabeth 14, and Catherine 10. In 1900 Mary gave her birth as Nov 1832. She had her daughter Mary still with her and three grandsons - Chas H Carper (b Sep 1880, Chas Weyandt (b Nov 1883 [son of Henry M]) and Henry Johnson (b May 1895). Mary said she had seven children all living. Her daughter Mary had one, living. Mary (sr) was not listed in 1910, so presumably died before then.

2. JOHN was born July 15, 1820 according to his tombstone, coming from Mifflin County with his parents about 1837. He married Catherine Estright (John Jr's obit) and settled in Liberty Twp, Bedford County, PA. Catherine gave her age in 1860 as 27. From the 1860/70/80 census returns we find the following children: Nancy A (1856), James (1858 - not listed in 1870), Samuel (1860 - not listed in 1870), John (1863), Barbara (1865), Mary S (1868 - not listed 1880), Sarah (1870). In 1880 John listed his mother as being born in Germany as did his sister Catherine. In 1900 John Wyant was living with the family of his son John. Catherine was living with her daughter Sarah (Sadie) in 1900. In 1910 she was living by herself and in 1920 was back living with her daughter. According to his tombstone at St Luke's Cemetery, Saxton, PA John died Jan 23, 1902 aged 81 yrs, 6 mo, 8 days. The children of John and Catherine are described further in the fourth generation.

3. CATHERINE was born July 21, 1820, according to her tombstone. She was listed as 20 in the 1850 census of Middle Woodbury, Bedford County, coming from Mifflin County with her parents about 1837. According to her obituary in The Cove Herald of August 30, 1894, she was unmarried and died the previous Sunday at the age of 74; she was buried at Martinsburg Fairview Cemetery where her marker notes: Katie Wyant, Died Aug. 26, 1894 Age 74 yrs 1 Mo 5 Days.

He died December 26, 1891 and was buried at Marion Cemetery, Potters Creek along with his wife Catherine (April 17, 1828 - June 20, 1898). A history of this family is obtained from "Family of John Furry, Sr".
Catherine Baker Furry was a daughter of John Furry, Jr and Mary Baker. She married Solomon Wyon on March 18, 1845. Their 10 children were Martha Jane (1847), Albert F. (1849), Mary Elizabeth (1851), Eleanor F. He was not listed with his mother in the 1850 census but was listed as James Weyandt with his own family in the 1860 census of Juniata Township, Blair County. With his first wife Mary Ann Morgan (1834 - 1860) he had Rebecca Jane (1854), William Henry (1857), and Levi (1859 died young).
